From Generation to Generation

May 24, 2016 by Sheryl Olitzky 2 Comments

Each chapter of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom is unique in their composition.  Yet, all the chapters achieve the same building bridges results.  Each chapter takes on the commitment of women waging peace.

The Westchester/Hudson Valley, New York Chapter has a very unique composition.  In this chapter there are two moms, one Jewish and one Muslim, who each have a set of teenaged twin girls.  When both sets of twins heard about their moms’ participation in the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, they immediately wanted to join the chapter.  The chapter made the decision to open up attendance to embrace these twins.  Many Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom chapters consist of daughters and their mothers.  This is the first chapter to include two sets of teenaged twin daughters along with their moms.  These teens have greatly enriched the chapter with their enthusiasm and new ideas.  They represent the future of our faith groups.  In fact, the teens have taken the concept of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom and have convened programs to bring together their Muslim and Jewish friends.

This is just another example of how the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom is waging peace one Muslim and one Jewish woman at a time and doing such from one generation to generation!

I read about this organization in the Jewish week and I am a neighbor of the Aloni Family– can you tell me a little bit more about the organization — when it meets, etc. Thank you.
