The Spirit of Charity in Ramadan

Ramadan Kareem! I am grateful to be alive to cherish, celebrate and commemorate another month of Ramadan.  Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Hijri calendar, commonly called the Muslim or Islamic calendar and is a month where Muslims strive to be in a heightened state of God-consciousness.  Clearly when one is not eating or drinking during a long day in June – one remembers that it is God who sustains us!

The aspect of Ramadan that I would like to emphasize with my Muslims sisters in the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom® is that Ramadan is time for increased charity.  This is the tradition set forth in our text – the Quran and the example of our Prophet Muhammad.  I urge you all to show your support of your fellow Jewish and Muslim sisters, your support of building bridges, your support of waging peace and your support of the work we are striving for in the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom® – forging peace through one relationship at a time.  I am happy to say that my first donation during this special month is to the Sisterhood. Please donate any amount during this blessed month and God will increase it manifold and credit your donation in this life and the hereafter.  Ameen!
