This simple act of kindness will show your solidarity and light up the darkness!
On Sunday evening, Jews around the world will begin the celebration of the holiday of Chanukah. It is all about the miracle of a small group of people, the Maccabees, who rose up against an evil ruler who wanted to destroy the Jewish people. Jews fought thousands of years ago to be able to worship God in their own way. And, today, we ask you to rise and respond.
Every day we hear from our sisters how they are afraid to publicly show their affiliation with their faith group. For our Jewish sisters, acts of hate are happening at a dizzying rate.
During Chanukah, Jews are instructed to put a Chanukah lamp, a menorah, in the window for all to see. Many of our Jewish sisters are feeling frightened to publicly display a menorah in their window. When one of us is hurting, we are all hurting! Consistent with the mission of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom to protect one another and our communities from hate, we ask each of you to be part of a movement that has taken place in many other communities in the US in the past. And, it is so simple. Print out the picture* below of a menorah and tape it to your front window. This will show your solidarity with your Jewish sisters and bring light into the darkness of fear.
