Statement Regarding Genocidal Practices Imposed on Uyghur Women

The Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom condemns the Chinese government’s most recent statement regarding its genocidal practices imposed on Uyghur women. In its recent tweet, the Chinese Embassy in the US shamelessly claimed that the mass forced abortion and sterilization of Uyghur women resulted in their “emancipation” and “promoted gender equality” since they stopped being “baby-making machines.”The dramatic decline in the fertility rate among Uyghur women is a result of mandatory birth control, forced mass sterilization, and rape.

The Chinese government has an official policy of family separation for Uyghurs and forced marriages of Uyghur women to Han Chinese men. These genocidal practices have resulted in the rapid decline of the birth rate, as documented by the Chinese government itself.  While the Chinese government denies any genocidal acts and attempts to present this as a success using negative stereotypes related to the Global War on Terror, a number of news reports and investigations have shown that it is part of its systematic oppression and genocidal methods used against the Uyghur population.

It is horrific to equate lowered birth rates among Uyghurs with the decrease in extremism.
We applaud Twitter for removing the tweet.

We call on the American people to learn more about the genocidal crimes of the Chinese government and continue to call for action to stop the genocide against Uyghurs by calling their representatives in Congress to hold the Chinese government to account for the ongoing genocide of the Uyghurs: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
