Grieving for the Killing of Innocents: A Call for Peace and Justice

The Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom grieves the continued senseless killing of innocent people who are attacked simply for being who they are. We are deeply saddened by the attack on a community in Sydney, Australia.  Such acts of violence are unconscionable and we hold close to our hearts those who were injured and the families of those murdered.

We mourn a world where innocent  people were killed because they were attending a celebration of the first night of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. We mourn a world where innocent children and families are killed and living in rubble without food and shelter as winter approaches in Gaza and the West Bank. We mourn a world in which there are those who justify hatred of Jews and hatred of Muslims.

As women for peace, we believe that violence is never the answer. We pray for a world in which we bridge differences and disagreements and do not allow them to devolve into hatred and violence. We work toward a world that values justice, peace, and each individual life equally.

In Peace and Sisterhood,
