Statement on the Murders in Albuquerque, New Mexico

The Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom strongly supports the investigation of the recent murders of four Muslim men in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are encouraged by the statement of President Biden that “These hateful attacks have no place in America,” and that this Administration strongly stands with the U.S. Muslim community.

It is a matter of human rights – and one of the founding doctrines of this country – that each of us is free to practice our religion and to attend our places of worship without fearing for our lives. These acts of hate don’t impact only the Muslim community, but all of us. We are determined to continue to stand against hate and violence (regardless of race, faith or background). Our thoughts, prayers, and support are with the entire Muslim community of Albuquerque; we want them to know they are not alone. We send special prayers to the families and souls of those murdered.

The mission of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, based on our shared values, is to build relationships between Muslim and Jewish women of all ages, to promote and advocate for human rights, and to end acts of hate for all human beings.
