Since 2008, when Donna Cephas (Co-President) received a Master’s Degree in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, she has applied herJewish education to projects that support Jewish identity formation and interfaith community building. Donna is a member of the Newark New Jersey Interfaith Coalition (a group of Christian, Muslim and Jewish religious leaders which focus on interfaith initiatives). She traveled to Israel in October 2012 with the Coalition on a Hope & Peace Mission. She is writing a book which chronicles the personal narratives of a cross-section of Non-Jewish adults committed to raising Jewish children. In 2003, at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York City, she founded and co-facilitated a learning and support group for non-Jewish adults raising Jewish children (an associate group of the Jewish Outreach Institute) and has been a member of Rodeph Sholom’s Committees on Inclusion/Outreach and the Role of the Non-Jew.
From 1980 to 1997 Donna was a real estate professional in New York City, focusing on low and moderate-income housing development. From 1976 to 1980 she was engaged in urban policy initiatives in New York City and New England.
In 1992 Donna co-founded and served as the Co-Director from 1992 through 2013 of the Women’s Mentoring Program of The Children’s Storefront School, a NYSAIS Accredited tuition-free, coeducational, independent day school in the Harlem neighborhood of N.Y. C. During this time she also served on the Board of Trustees and was the Chair of the School Committee.
